Sillsport Football Academy (Africa): |
|
|
|
| |
We've got something special : |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
The Sillsport Group was delighted when it was invited to join Glentoran
Football Club and Glentoran Community Trust, to assist in the further
development of the academy. The outstanding effort and generosity that has
already been, and continues to be shown by the supporters of Glentoran FC
via the GCT is most definitely pivotal in keeping the academy running since
2006. |

The staff of both Glentoran FC and the GTT would like to thank
everyone involved for their continual support in helping to get the academy
to the stage where Sillsport Group have joined us to attempt to take it to
the next level.
Sillsport is a Sports Marketing and Sports Agency business based in the U.K.
The Group work with some of the best sports people, athletes, football
players and sports franchises and clubs in the world and recently have
embarked upon our next stage of global development.
The academy has been established and based in Ghana and, therefore, provides
a hub for all African candidates to migrate to.
Over the past year The Sillsport Group have had a team of consultants on the
ground in Africa, searching for the right academy for Sillsport Group to
partner with. The Glentoran Football academy, founded by Christopher Antoh
Forsythe, presented the credentials required for the type of project the
company wish to be involved with. Now to be called the Sillsport Football
Academy (Africa), it will endeavour to search for and nurture the best
talent that Africa can produce, whilst ensuring that the standards of all
round education and life style disciplines are maintained and encouraged. It
is well known that to become a top athlete, brightness of mind and thinking
is as important as the physical and skill attributes required to make it to
the top!!
Therefore, aided by our team of sports professionals drawn from the U.K. as
well as Africa, we know we will be able to provide a facility for the
academy candidates to improve their life and sports skills, as well as enjoy
the daily challenge of knowing they could well be embarking on a journey
that could take them to the pinnacle of their sport.

Academy plans for the future: |
|
| |
|
It's looking brighter than ever : |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
Whilst the current academy has the pedigree to produce talented sports
people, we are already planning to build upon the sound foundations in place
and are looking to expand, not only the capacity of the academy, but also
upgrade and improve the facilities and infrastructure required to make the
Sillsport Academy the only academy to attend in Africa. |
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
Christopher Antoh Forsythe the Academy Head and founder explains, "The new
African H.Q. based in Sunyani Ghana is commencing its programme of continual
review of the academy ensuring we know what changes and upgrades are
required to provide the best facilities and highest standards for our
candidates. Delivering the correct platform for them to launch their
respective careers from is critical and I know I have the support from the
U.K. team to do so.”

Whilst the first team squad of the Ghanaian National side were preparing for the African Cup of Nations 2008 held in Ghana, Christopher Antoh Forsythe of Sillsport Football Academy (Africa) was invited to meet the Black Stars players, where he enjoyed an informed conversation regarding the academy and received some very valuable advice from Michael Essien the Ghanaian International. Chris says “To meet with Michael was fantastic. He gave me time to discuss the academy project and really encouraged the work we have been doing with the kids, which I could tell from his attitude, it's close to his own heart too. As a top English Premiership player I'm sure it can be easy to forget the past, but Michael demonstrated to me he certainly has not forgotten his roots. The way he conducted himself was so impressive and it is something we look to instil into our academy candidates – respect and pride”.

Sillsport Director Neil Sillett (pictured) and Sillsport's Head of Academy (Africa) Christopher Antoh Forsythe visited the Ghana U20 squad who were training and playing in Sofia, Bulgaria in preparation for their U20 World Cup campaign in Egypt this September.
Neil was there to meet with the Ghana coaches and senior officials from the Ghana F.A. to discuss the Sillsport Academy based in Ghana and the broader opportunities the Group can bring to the Ghana F.A.
Neil said “To meet with the Ghana representatives was extremely interesting and we spent a good few hours discussing the talent in Ghana and the opportunities available to their F.A. and our business. Whenever I have chats like these, it always reminds me that the common language in the world is mostly football!!”

Spirit and grit key to Ghana triumph |
| |
"They play with a free spirit" - that was England coach Brian Eastick's assessment of Ghana ahead of the group game between England and Ghana here at the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.
The truth is this Ghana side, World Champions now of course, is massively entertaining to watch - they certainly keep you on the edge of your seat.
Their style captured the imagination of the local fans as Dominic Adiyiah, ably supported by fellow striker Ransford Osei and captain Dede Ayew, raced to the Golden Shoe award for the tournament's top scorer.
With Samuel Inkoom and David Addy flying down the flanks to provide service, the Black Satellites had the perfect attacking formula.
Ghana showed a very different side to their game in the Cairo International Stadium on Friday night.
They were strong in defence and showed magnificent resistance when forced to play the majority of the final with only 10 men.
A lesser team would have wilted at some stage, physically and emotionally exhausted, but Ghana knew they could stay with the South Americans and overcome them.
And so they did, thanks to the most dramatic device of the penalty shoot-out.
So in Africa, in the lead up to Africa's first World Cup, an African team has claimed the Under-20 crown for the first time.
